High school baseball: Jesuit, IMG Academy, Buford among Florida, Georgia squads dominating OFFICIAL Top 25 - OFFICIAL
High school baseball: Jesuit, IMG Academy, Buford among Florida, Georgia squads dominating MaxPreps Top 25
The first national high school baseball rankings of the season find Florida and Georgia dominating the MaxPreps Top 25 as the Sunshine State logs seven teams, including three of the top four while the Peach State is next with five.

With a pair of season-opening wins Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) holds on to the top spot while IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) started 3-0. The two teams are expected to meet April 20.

The Top 25 rankings only include teams that expect to begin play in the next month. As a result, several teams not expected to begin play until April have been dropped despite holding a spot in the preseason Top 25 rankings.

Dropped out: No. 3 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.); No. 6 Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.); No. 10 Thousand Oaks (Calif.); No. 11 Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.); No. 14 Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.); No. 18 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.); Ronald Reagan (Pfafftown, N.C.).

Game of the Week: Buford 3, Parkview 0. In a game between Georgia's best, Buford pulled out the win over Parkview behind the pitching of MaxPreps Underclass All-American Dylan Lesko, who had nine strikeouts.

Player of the Week: Jackson Ferris, IMG Academy. Ferris tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts against Palmetto.

Recruit Watch: Brady House, Winder-Barrow. Considered one of the top 10 players in the nation, House opened his senior year with five RBI in his first three games to boost Winder-Barrow into the rankings.

Game to Watch: IMG Academy vs. Southlake Carroll. The Florida-based school is scheduled to head to Texas this week to take on the Dragons, who have won two Class 6A state championships over the past three years.

Streaks: Webster (Wisc.), led by former MLB pitcher Jarrod Washburn, did not get to play a single game last year, but it has the nation's longest active win streak at 37 games dating back to the 2018 season. Webster is not scheduled to begin play until April 18.

Texas high school football: Allen hires former Arkansas coach Chad Morris - OFFICIAL
Texas high school football: Allen hires former Arkansas coach Chad Morris
Allen (Texas), one of the most prominent high school football programs in the nation, found its next head coach, announcing Wednesday that former Arkansas coach Chad Morris will lead the Eagles. The hire comes two weeks after Terry Gambill announced his retirement following a five-year tenure that saw the Eagles go 65-4 with a 2017 6A Division 1 state title.

"I am honored to join Allen ISD and the Allen Eagles football program," Morris said in a statement. "My roots run deep in Texas high school football, and I am excited for the opportunity to get back to coaching young student-athletes and making an impression on their lives."

Morris was Auburn's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last year and was the head coach at Arkansas from 2018-19. He was 4-18 as Razorbacks coach. He last coached in Texas from 2015-17 as the head coach at SMU. He went 14-22 in three years with the Mustangs. He also was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Clemson under Dabo Swinney from 2011-14 and spent a year at Tulsa the year prior.

Before his college coaching career started in 2010, Morris was one of the best high school football coaches in the Lone Star State.

He spent two years at Texas power Lake Travis (Austin) as the head coach from 2008-09 and led the Cavaliers to back-to-back 4A Division 1 state titles going 32-0 in his two years. Garrett Gilbert was his quarterback during the 2008 season when he was named the Gatorade Athlete of the Year after throwing for 4,851 yards and 55 touchdowns.

Morris is 169-38 during his 16 years high school level and also had previous stops at Stephenville (Texas), Bay City (Texas), Elysian Fields (Texas) and Eustace (Texas).

This was one of the most sought-after coaching jobs in the nation. The Eagles have won five state titles since 2008, led by a three-peat with Kyler Murray under center from 2012-14. Allen has the largest enrollment in the state and a $60 million stadium in which they've never lost.

The Texas high school football power has won at least 10 games in 15 consecutive seasons and return a lot of talent next fall led by three-star offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu, junior running back Jaylen Jenkins and 2022 Harvard commit Jackson Newville.

Allen has the nation's best player, one of the most impressive winning streaks in state history, and now, a national title.

The Eagles' dominant victory in the Class 6A-I title game, combined with a decisive De La Salle victory over Centennial in California, is enough to boost Allen to the No. 1 spot, just past Bishop Gorman.

Bishop Gorman enjoyed a dominant season, emerging from a very challenging early-season schedule unscathed.

Allen, conversely, proved its mettle down the stretch, defeating DeSoto, Arlington Martin, Euless Trinity and Skyline in consecutive weeks leading up the 6A-I title game. Of course, it helps when reigning MaxPreps Player of the Year (and one of the greatest Texas high school football players ever) Kyler Murray lines up behind center.

De La Salle and Folsom check in at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, after dominant victories in CIF Bowl Games.

Final rankings are subject to change following the State Champions Bowl Series on Dec. 27, involving several ranked teams.

High school football rankings: Mater Dei zooms to No. 1 in California OFFICIAL Top 25 after 49-point opening win - OFFICIAL
High school football rankings: Mater Dei zooms to No. 1 in California MaxPreps Top 25 after 49-point opening win
This isn't the first time a worthy squad has tried to upend the season-ending Southern California high school football celebration that is Mater Dei vs. St. John Bosco.

Over the last five seasons, as the Monarchs and Braves have ascended to the top of the national football food chain, several talented squads have met the Trinity League juggernauts head on, only to be soundly defeated.

In a COVID-19 shortened season where most California teams are playing four to six games, one of the biggest contests is Friday when second-ranked St. John Bosco takes on No. 3 Servite in what's the California Game of the Week.

Servite, behind dynamic 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior dual threat quarterback Noah Fifita (offers from Arizona and Cal), has outscored two opponents, 113-19.

CALIFORNIA SPRING COMPUTER RANKINGS: Compare to human rankings below

Fifita threw for almost 2,900 yards and 37 touchdowns as a sophomore when the Friars went 7-4. He nearly led Servite to an upset of the eventual national champs, dropping a 27-26 Trinity League thriller.

The Braves are loaded again, though they did lose current Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to graduation and replaced him with two dynamic young arms in sophomore Pierce Clarkson and junior Katin Houser. Both have looked good in the early going, combining for 492 passing yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions in two wins.

Servite could spoil the season-ending contest between Bosco and Mater Dei, which opened its season last week with a 52-3 throttling of JSerra Catholic behind three touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Elijah Brown in his first varsity game.

There are plenty of other terrific matchups this weekend including No. 11 Oaks Christian at No. 7 Sierra Canyon, No. 8 Alemany at No. 10 Bishop Amat and No. 21 Edison at No. 9 Los Alamitos. In San Diego Section play, No. 23 St. Augustine travels to No. 17 Cathedral Catholic.
