High school softball: Pitchers with most career no-hitters - OFFICIAL
High school softball: Pitchers with most career no-hitters
High school softball made a big move in 2010. A move of three feet. The National Federation of High Schools changed the distance from the pitching rubber to the plate from 40 feet to 43 feet in 2010 and as a result, the number of pitchers posting no-hitters has drastically changed.

MaxPreps has compiled a list of pitchers with 30 or more career no-hitters. Of the 35 pitchers on the list, only four had the majority of their career fall after the 2010 season.

Ashley Brignac of John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.) set the national record of 58, breaking the old mark of 50 held by fellow Louisiana native Candice Carnahan of Barbe. Brignac had two no-hitters as a freshman, 17 as a sophomore, 18 as a junior and 21 as a senior. She might have had more as a freshman, but she backed up state player of the year Jessica Barksdale.

Brignac received a challenge from Alexis Silkwood of Marquette (Alton, Illinois) in 2013 when she finished her career with 54 no-hitters between 2010 and 2013. Silkwood had 19 no-hitters as a junior, 15 as a senior and 10 each as a sophomore and freshman. She went on to set school records at Mississippi State.

Michele Granger of Valencia (Placentia, Calif.) was the first pitcher with more than 30 no-hitters. She graduated in 1988 with 36 no-hitters before heading to Cal-Berkeley, where she was a four-time All-American. Lisa Fernandez of St. Joseph (Lakewood, Calif.), a future four-time All-American at UCLA, and De De Weiman of Gahr (Cerritos, Calif.), both finished their careers with 37 career no-hitters in 1989. Carnahan took over the lead two years later in 1991.

Sources for the list include the NFHS record book, state association websites, Cal-Hi Sports record book by Mark and Nelson Tennis, the MaxPreps leaderboards and various newspapers accessed by newspapers.com. For any corrections or additions, e-mail Kevin Askeland at [email protected]

High School Baseball: Wild week ahead in Florida could provide major shakeup for OFFICIAL Top 25 - OFFICIAL
High School Baseball: Wild week ahead in Florida could provide major shakeup for MaxPreps Top 25
The MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings could drastically different next week thanks to a number of big games pitting some of the top teams in the nation, all of them from Florida.

No. 2 Jesuit (Tampa) has a tough slate as it takes on Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) and No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). The Ascenders, meanwhile, take on small-school powerhouse Canterbury prior to the Jesuit matchup. No. 4 Stoneman Douglas, meanwhile, tangles with No. 12 Calvary Christian Academy in one week.

Those matchups will have heavy influence on the rankings in the coming week, as will the final two matchups between No. 1 Buford (Ga.) and No. 25 Winder-Barrow. Although the Bulldogs lost the first game to the top-ranked Wolves, they will likely throw All-American Brady House in one of the final two games of the three-game series providing Buford's toughest test so far this season.

Dropped out: Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.), Pioneer (Mission, Texas), Braddock (Miami, Fla.).

Game of the Week: Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) 6, Pinnacle, 5. The Huskies rallied from a 5-3 deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh and then scored the winning run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Player of the Week: Jay Dill, Baylor. Dill homered four times in five wins for Baylor and drove in 12 runs.

Recruit Watch: Braden Montgomery, Madison Central. The All-America candidate had a double, triple and home run in one game last week and also picked up a pitching win.

Game to Watch: Buford vs. Winder-Barrow. Although Buford defeated Winder-Barrow in their first matchup on Monday, the Bulldogs got to Wolves' starter Dylan Lesko for four runs on five hits. Winder-Barrow is likely to give No. 1 Buford its toughest test for the remainder of the regular season.

Sam Huard made up for lost time in a hurry. The five-star Kennedy Catholic (Burien, Wash.) senior quarterback threw for 495 yards and seven touchdowns in last week's 49-14 season-opening win over Tahoma.

According to the Tacoma Tribune, the University of Washington signee threw for 341 yards and five touchdowns in the first half alone before the Lancers pumped the brakes. Huard is 805 yards shy of breaking the state career passing record of 13,044 set by Brett Rypien of Shadle Park (Spokane) from 2011 to 2014.

Like most of the West Coast, Kennedy Catholic has been paused from football since the fall of 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lancers resumed play with a bang as a double pass found its way back to Huard on the game's first play on Friday. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-hander fired a 46-yard pass to Reed Shumpert, who four plays later caught a TD pass. Huard finished with 26 completions in 35 attempts.

He's thrown for 12,240 career yards and 139 touchdowns. The Lancers travel Friday to Decatur (Federal Way).

“I just wanted to take a moment and see all my teammates and my coaches and just be out here together,” Huard told the newspaper after Friday's games. “Just being able to play with these guys, it means the world to me. ... That’s the only thing that matters to me at the end of the day is just being out here playing the game that I love with my teammates.”

Huard is ranked the No. 11 player overall nationally in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports composite, and the No. 1 pro-style quarterback prospect. His father Damon and uncle Brock both played quarterback in the NFL.

High school baseball: Jesuit, IMG Academy, Buford among Florida, Georgia squads dominating OFFICIAL Top 25 - OFFICIAL
High school baseball: Jesuit, IMG Academy, Buford among Florida, Georgia squads dominating MaxPreps Top 25
The first national high school baseball rankings of the season find Florida and Georgia dominating the MaxPreps Top 25 as the Sunshine State logs seven teams, including three of the top four while the Peach State is next with five.

With a pair of season-opening wins Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.) holds on to the top spot while IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) started 3-0. The two teams are expected to meet April 20.

The Top 25 rankings only include teams that expect to begin play in the next month. As a result, several teams not expected to begin play until April have been dropped despite holding a spot in the preseason Top 25 rankings.

Dropped out: No. 3 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.); No. 6 Baylor (Chattanooga, Tenn.); No. 10 Thousand Oaks (Calif.); No. 11 Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.); No. 14 Valley Christian (San Jose, Calif.); No. 18 American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.); Ronald Reagan (Pfafftown, N.C.).

Game of the Week: Buford 3, Parkview 0. In a game between Georgia's best, Buford pulled out the win over Parkview behind the pitching of MaxPreps Underclass All-American Dylan Lesko, who had nine strikeouts.

Player of the Week: Jackson Ferris, IMG Academy. Ferris tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts against Palmetto.

Recruit Watch: Brady House, Winder-Barrow. Considered one of the top 10 players in the nation, House opened his senior year with five RBI in his first three games to boost Winder-Barrow into the rankings.

Game to Watch: IMG Academy vs. Southlake Carroll. The Florida-based school is scheduled to head to Texas this week to take on the Dragons, who have won two Class 6A state championships over the past three years.

Streaks: Webster (Wisc.), led by former MLB pitcher Jarrod Washburn, did not get to play a single game last year, but it has the nation's longest active win streak at 37 games dating back to the 2018 season. Webster is not scheduled to begin play until April 18.
